SMART have organised a Christmas Festival Day in mid-December every year since 1996. We erect a large Christmas tree on the Village Green and invite a senior member of the community to switch on the lights.
Christmas Carols are sung around the tree in anticipation of Santa’s visit. Volunteers dress up as cartoon characters and entertain the children as they wait for Santa to arrive, as he always does in style. Then each child visits Santa in his grotto to ensure that he knows exactly what presents to bring and receive a bag of goodies.
The event is financed through local fundraising.
